This last weekend saw the MJWA crew take to the water in the beautiful Bridgetown on the mighty Blackwood River for the first event of the 2025 river season, under the guidance and watchful eye of our first time race director Matt Cadd.

Saturday saw the 10 strong field take to the water for some training and boat handling skills in a no-pressure environment, this also gave the crews the opportunity to get back into river mode and get a few full course runs of the river in preparation for the Sunday race!

It was fantastic to see so many of our river boats on the water with some newly built craft running in the Formula Mini category and also the first of many “Mini-Tinnies” on the water, great also to see Tom and Hannah who made the trip down from K town!

Sunday graced us with heavy rain, after the teams realised that we were going to get wet anyway….we got the race underway at 0900 sharp, starting from Sunnyside for leg 1 to Winnejup. This was a fast and flowing run with some very close times recorded among the field. After a regroup and warm up (thanks to Scott and Marcus for the fire and time keeping) we set off back down river to Bridgetown.

The run to the first road crossing was again fast and smooth with the top 3 boats all within 30 seconds, after winching over the crossing and continuing on to Bridgetown we had a clean run in great water to the finish! Results will be posted Thursday, stay tuned as this will be one of the most jumbled field of boats and finish count back we have seen.

Notable moments…..
– Marcus – “Bloody hell, nearly put the fire out 🤬
– Scott to Allan – ” have you got the bungs in??? I’m bloody sinking!!!😂🤡
– Brad to Andrew – YESSS we passed Nathan… Nec-Minute “🤬🤬🤬 we got no steering>>>>>>>Went Bush😂😫😫

Once again it was the entire club that pulled off this fantastic event and made it all work seamlessly and again a huge thank you from the MJWA fam to Matt Cadd and those who braved the elements from the banks to let us enjoy the sport we love.
